We are committed to giving back to the community that has supported us from the start! We are a small company with a small team and a big heart, giving back when and where we possibly can. We love supporting Austin with sponsorships and donations. We reserve our giving for charities and fundraisers within our distribution footprint (Hays, Williamson, and Travis counties). You must be associated with a local 501(c) 3 and comply with TABC beer event regulations (if applicable) to be considered. To continue our support, we select a Charity of the Month to be the beneficiary of our tasting room gratuities each month. If selected, involvement from the charity is highly encouraged on Saturdays when our tasting room is open to the public. We ask that the charity be locally based or have a local chapter. Listed below are a few among many charities, events, and fundraisers we give to year round. If you have inquiries about Thirsty Planet partnering with your charity, please contact Allison Kelly at firstname.lastname@example.org for inquiries.
Well Aware is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with headquarters in Austin, Texas that provides innovative and sustainable solutions to water scarcity and contamination in Africa. They fund and implement life-saving water systems to drive economic development and build self-sufficient communities. Every April Thirsty Planet teams up with our friends at Well Aware for Shower Strike 2016. We vow to not shower for a week in a fundraising effort to help build sustainable water systems in East Africa. We have reached our fundraising goal each year and in 2016 won the opportunity to name an African water well after the brewery! We love stinkin’ for a cause!
At Well Aware, their responsibility to the communities in which they work goes far beyond the drilling of a well. More than 60 percent of existing water wells in Africa currently do not work. Their water systems are built to last due to realistic and responsible planning and collaboration. They truly care about the communities whose livelihood depends on a clean reliable water source.
We owe it to our Goat mascot to support the animals…and our friends! Our neighbors at the zoo have been a great partner charity ever since we opened the brewery in 2010. We continue to make them our Charity of the Month, sponsor the Austin Zoo Gala, and various other events throughout the year.
The mission of the Austin Zoo and Animal Sanctuary is to assist animals in need through rescue, rehabilitation and education. They currently have over 300 animals from over 100 different species at the Zoo. Last year, over 199,000 people visited Austin Zoo. Over 32,000 were students and teachers visiting on field trips. The Austin Zoo & Animal Sanctuary is a pleasant Hill Country destination where the people of Austin can bring their families, see the animals close-up, and enjoy all that the Hill Country has to offer.
Divine Canines was formed in 2004 by a group of dog lovers who wanted to share the unconditional love of dogs with people in special needs facilities in Central Texas. Divine Canines trains and evaluates each dog and handler to ensure both are confident in all situations. American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen certification is a prerequisite for entering their therapy dog training.
We are proud to have partnered with DC to host and build participation for the month long brewery crawl, Barks4Beers! For the month of May, we (along with other Austin craft breweries) donate all Barks4Beers pint glass sales to the cause, host Divine Canines training sessions and present them as our Charity of the Month.
The Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund (MGCF) is dedicated to the conservation and protection of the critically endangered Mountain Gorillas in Africa, their habitat, and working with the people around the National Parks. They have been saving gorillas ever since 1983 and we are sure proud to help them do it!
Each year we sponsor the Austin Gorilla Run and brew up our Silverback Pale Ale to support the cause. We donate the majority of the Silverback Pale Ale sales to the MGCF, are the exclusive beer sponsor of the Austin Gorilla Run, donate all tasting room gratuities for Dec-Jan, and host the Gorilla Pub Crawl to gain participation for the race. This Denver based charity also hosts Gorilla Runs in Denver and Cincinnati, raising funds through the purchase of the gorilla suits its participants wear during the race.
Even though the MGCF breaks the mold of being an Austin based charity, we are committed to establishing their Austin presence and making it our own.
